PMarch 26th Dr. Fred Porcheddu, Viola Kleindienst Professor, Denison University Department of English -"The Alchemy of Medieval Manuscript Studies: How Old Books Talk to One Another." In this illustrated talk, Dr. Porcheddu will tell how, while looking through medieval alchemical manuscripts at the British Library in London, he accidentally made a major discovery about early English drama. The story ranges from 21st-century America to 16th-century Yorkshire, where the scribbles left in the margins of an ordinary medical manuscript turn out to contain a rare record of one of medieval literature's most elusive subjects.

PApril 23rd Dr. Bob Malcuit, Professor Emeritus, Geosciences Department, Denison University – History of the last 1 million years in Licking County and adjacent areas - Over the past million years there has been at least four major ice advances (glaciations) on the Midwest of the United States. All four have had significant effects on Ohio but the most recent three have had a major impact on the Granville area. A lasting legacy of the ice ages are the drainage changes caused by the birth and demise of large lakes of water that were ponded in front of the ice sheets as they progressed southward. The Ohio River, the Muskingum River, the Licking River, and even Raccoon Creek are the result of the drainage changes associated with the glacial history of the area.
